i made this in the wake of the ferguson riots. policing began as a way of protecting property—slaves—and police would attempt to capture runaways, as quentin tarantino has by now so thoroughly depicted.

the africans in the slides are from an ‘endangered’ anthropological archive. though these men are perceived by the colonial gaze, they exist in the decolonized now as this animation. the towering mcdonald’s m in the background of the police action in ferguson reminds us that police still maintain property rights over human rights, it’s doctrinal.
